MORFEUS aims to create contemporary architecture with enduring, timeless qualities. The offices work is characterized by an intuitive yet rational approach, and emphasis on each project as something unique. Solutions and expressions therefore vary with clear bases in different landscapes, functions and clients.

Based in central Oslo, the firm was established in 2007 and consists of the two partners Caroline Støvring and Cecilie Wille, and a handful of great employees. Although the office is quite small in size by international standards, experience is solid in range; from private and commercial housing, to road and landscape installations, kindergartens, refurbishments and public exhibitions.

Through exhibitions, competitions, publications, nominations and awards, MORFEUS have made themselves noted. The exhibition “Building Blocks”, where MORFEUS’ project “Habitat Hollywood” played a central role, can boast visitor records at DogA, the Norwegian Centre for Design and Architecture. MORFEUS’ project “BUKKKJERKA” for the Norwegian Scenic Routes in Northern Norway has been awarded three national prizes.

Several of the company’s private residences, vacations homes and the Scenic Road project “Bukkekjerka” have been published in various magazines nationally and internationally. The partners also take part in ongoing public debates connected to development of the built environment in both lectures, articles and interviews.

MORFEUS’ architectural point of reference is Scandinavian; a contemporary take on tradition, innovation with a sense of practicality, and a strong connection to the natural given conditions of the site. Working with light is emphasized as fundamental, and a flexible connection between outdoor and indoor space. Both key factors in a country like Norway where there are extreme contrasts between the different seasons climatically and in terms of daylight.

The size of the firm allows projects to be pondered collectively, and all employees to take part in varied aspects connected to architectural design and construction. The approach is often to design and detail a project the way we desire it to be, sometimes optimistically, yet often with a practical understanding of feasibility. Work is done closely with the client, structural engineers, consultants and subcontractors throughout different phases of the project, seeking to optimize built solutions in direct dialog.
